Tor Sturgis
Tor Sturgis has had a superb grounding for taking out her licence to Train in 2005. Tor grew up surrounded by world class riders and represented Great Britain in Three-Day Eventing. Following a degree at Bristol and completing the BHB Graduate programme, she worked as assistant to Martyn Meade racking up one of the best strike rates in the country. She has also gained valuable knowledge of race riding having ridden winners over jumps and on the Flat, including experience at Grade One tracks such as Ascot and the Cheltenham Festival.

Tor has worked for trainers including Henrietta Knight, Jim Old and Francois Doumen and has spent the previous three years as Assistant to Barry Hills; a leading trainer of Flat horses with one of the largest strings in the country.

Why is Tor different?
Tor's life with horses means she is second to none in the horsemanship stakes. Tor's approach to training is to find out what makes each and every horse under her care tick. By getting inside the mind of her horses, she can learn exactly what each horse needs and then tailor a work programme accordingly.

By having a small string Tor is able to give more time and adaptability to train each horse individually, thus creating better results on the track.

Tor's training techniques
Tor believes that horses need mental stimulation so that they are kept interested in the racing game. In Tor's opinion an inquisitive horse is a happy horse. To this end Tor's racehorses have a routine that is adaptable so they are much less likely to become bored with being trained to win races.

Tor's experience with horse ailments means she is able to get the best out of horses with problems. Tor likes to keep ahead of the pack by keeping in touch with global veterinary devleopments. Tor is a young trainer with new ideas, but she also has the confidence to use old fashioned techniques if they continue to pay dividends.
